Overview
The Golf Genius + FAIRWAYiQ integration enables golfers to enter scores and view live tournament leaderboards directly from FAIRWAYiQ cart tablets. This integration is available to customers who subscribe to Golf Genius Premium and FAIRWAYiQ Enterprise.
How it works
The integration follows a straightforward sequence controlled by the golf club staff in Golf Genius:
- Staff creates an event in Golf Genius and sets up the tournament, pairings, and cart assignments
- Cart assignment data is pushed to FAIRWAYiQ — this allows the user to configure which carts get "activated" for tournaments
- Staff sets the round status to "In Progress" — this triggers the "Enter Scores" and "Leaderboard" buttons to appear on the assigned tablets
- Golfers enter scores on the tablet — scores sync to the Golf Genius leaderboard in real time
- Staff sets the round status to "Completed" — tournament buttons are immediately removed from all tablets
Key point: Cart assignment is the critical manual step. It's the handshake between Golf Genius and FAIRWAYiQ — without it, the correct tablets won't activate for tournament mode.
Golf Genius Setup Guide (Step-by-Step)
These are the steps the golf club staff performs in Golf Genius:
1. Create an Event
Select "Create an Event/League/Trip." This is the recommended path.
Important: Golf Genius also offers a "Quick Event Setup" option, but there is a known Golf Genius bug where tournaments configured during the Quick Event setup process will not function correctly with the integration. Golf Genius is working on a fix. Until then, always use "Create an Event/League/Trip."
2. Build the Event Roster
Go to "Golfers" and add players manually, upload a spreadsheet, or copy from another event.
3. Add Rounds
Navigate to "Calendar" > "Add Rounds." Define the date range for the event. Each day equals one round.
4. Create Tournaments
Go to "Rounds" > "Tournaments" to create tournament(s). All tournament types and formats are supported by the integration.
5. Create Pairings
Select "Rounds" > "Create New Pairings." Create pairings manually or let Golf Genius generate them automatically. Click "Continue" when finished.
6. Assign Course & Tee
After creating pairings, use the "Set Course & Tee" button to assign course and tee details for every group. Click "Save Pairings."
Important: There is a known Golf Genius bug where the "Save Pairings" button is sometimes not selectable on this screen. If this happens, take any action on the screen — even just reassigning the same course and tee — to make the button selectable. You must click "Save Pairings" or the integration will fail. Golf Genius is working on a fix for this.
7. Assign Carts — Critical Step
Go to "Rounds" > "Cart Assignment." Map players to specific carts by selecting each player, choosing their cart number, and clicking "Assign."
This step is essential — it tells FAIRWAYiQ which tablets should activate for tournament mode.
When finished, click "Save." A confirmation message should appear: "Cart data has been successfully updated in the FAIRWAYiQ system."
8. Activate Tournament Mode
Go to "Rounds" > "Round Status" > "In Progress." Once activated, the "Enter Scores" and "Leaderboard" buttons automatically appear on the appropriate tablets.
9. Golfers Use the Integration
"Enter Scores" opens a scorecard view where golfers add scores hole by hole. Once scores are entered, they are sent to Golf Genius and computed. As leaderboards are developed on Golf Genius, they are sent down to the tablets, which refresh in near real time.
10. Complete the Round
When play concludes, move the round from "In Progress" to "Completed." This immediately removes the tournament buttons from the tablet interface.
11. Multi-Day Events
For multi-day events, repeat the Create New Pairings, Course & Tee Assignment, Cart Assignment, and Round Status steps for each round to ensure tablets activate correctly each day.
